Why is consistent cleanings and filter replacements important for commercial refrigeration equipment, such as ice machines, beverage dispensing systems, and coolers?
Preventive maintenance on your commercial refrigeration equipment will help to avoid costly emergency service calls. Additionally, it can potentially extend the life of your unit; and yes, it could even reduce power consumption so that you can run equipment as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible.
Here are some basic steps from our Senior Project Manager, Lee Mamone, to help keep your commercial refrigeration unit running smoothly in order to save you money with less service calls on your equipment in the long run:
- Consistently clean the condenser. Just like you and me, your unit needs to breathe in order to stay running properly, so make sure its “airways” aka the condenser which controls the flow of refrigerant is cleaned.
- Clear the condensate lines. This will ensure the inside remains clean and will prevent slippery messes in the future.
- Check the door gaskets. If the door does not seal entirely, the equipment will have to work harder to maintain the internal set temperature. A broken or inoperative gasket will keep the unit running longer than necessary, driving up costs. Make sure to check and repair or replace any ineffective gaskets so your equipment works efficiently!
- Inspect door hinges and closures. Similarly to the gaskets, the hinges and closures are there to make sure the door closes and seals properly. Inadequate hinges and closures can also affect the run time of the unit, driving up energy costs.
- Inspect the thermometer itself. If the thermometer on the unit is not calibrated or reading the temperature correctly, you run the risk of product spoilage due the temperature being too high, or, added energy cost for running the unit unnecessarily low.
