Commercial Refrigeration Summertime Prep List

Commercial Refrigeration Summertime Prep List

As the weather starts to warm up around Houston, we wanted to share some reminders and tips that will help to keep your commercial refrigeration running as efficiently as possible.

  1. Avoid Overcrowding – This is important year round. If you overcrowd your unit the system will have to work much harder to circulate the cold air. In many cases, overcrowding leads to a refrigeration system failure and causes other related issues. In general it is best to keep products very organized and to avoid tightly packing the shelves.
  2. Optimize Kitchen Layout – If it’s possible for you to move or rearrange certain appliances, make sure that any heat-emitting equipment in your kitchen is placed far enough away from the refrigeration unit so that there is proper circulation around each appliance.
  3. Inspect Doors & Gaskets – Doors and gaskets endure the most wear and tear. When the seals around the doors (gaskets) become damaged or worn, cold air is able to escape through the gaps making the system work much harder to maintain temperature. It is important to check your gaskets and the alignment of the door regularly to ensure it is air-tight.
  4. Preventative Maintenance – Don’t forget that refrigeration needs maintenance too. A regular inspection, cleaning, and tune-up will go a long way to keep your units operating efficiently, especially, during the summer months when refrigeration will be working in overdrive just to fight the Texas heat.
